Top 10 Highest Team Run Chase in ICC Champions Trophy

In 1998, ICC changed the name of Knockout Tournament to Champions Trophy. It is played in 50- over format. The first tournament was played in 1998 and was continued to be played and held after every alternative year. But the format of the Champions Trophy gradually kept changing over the period of time. Since the beginnings of the tournament in 2009 & till the present, it is been played every fourth coming year. 

England & Wales hosted the latest edition in 2017. The current champions are Pakistan. International Cricket Council (ICC) has all the rights to perform the tournaments. ICC is an International Organisation that looks after the management and smooth conduct of tournaments under their Governance. It has the One Day International (ODI) format. Here is the list of:

1. Sri Lanka Vs India

The match between Sri Lanka & India stood very interesting. After winning the first match against Pakistan, India was more confident to win another match. India batted first and Shikhar Dhawan knocked in a wonderful century MS Dhoni too scored quick 63 runs and took the team to 321 runs.

The Sri Lanka team came to chase and were in terrific form. Kusal Mendis scored 76 runs and Danushka scored 89 runs, which help the team to comfortably win the match.

2. England Vs Bangladesh

The match between England and Bangladesh was one of the best thriller matches ever at the ICC Champions Trophy. The match was played at The Oval, London. England won the toss and elected to bowl first. Bangladesh batsmen were in good form and Tamim Iqbal knocked a wonderful century and posted a huge score of 305 runs.

On the other side, England came to chase and lost Jason Roy very early, but other reputed batsmen Alex, Root and Morgan played really well and took them towards victory.

3. England Vs Sri Lanka

The match between England & Sri Lanka was held after both teams qualified for the semi-finals. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bowl first. England came out to bat and Cook scored a wonderful half-century. The middle-order played extremely well and took the team to a total of 293 runs. The target seems to be huge.

Sri Lanka came out to chase and the overwhelming performance by Kumar Sangakkara of 134 runs took the team to the comfortable win with 17 balls remaining.

4. West Indies Vs Pakistan

The match between West Indies and Pakistan was played in Dhaka. It was one of the interesting matches in the history of the ICC Champions Trophy Tournament. Pakistan opted to bat first and their batsmen played really well and made a total of 289 runs.

West Indies came out to chase and since the very beginning, all the Caribbean batsmen were in good form and made a good partnership with each other and reached the target and won the match by 5 wickets.

5. England Vs South Africa

The match between England and South Africa was played in the Inaugural ICC Champions Trophy Tournament. Total 8 teams took part in this edition. England won the toss and came to bat first. Their beautiful partnership kept in the building and the team reached a total of 281 runs with the loss of 7 wickets.

South Africa team was in good foam and almost all its batsmen played well and made a comfortable win and with 3 overs remaining.

6. Australia Vs England

The match between Australia and England was played in Birmingham. Australia winning the toss and elected to bat first and captain Steven Smith scored 56 runs, Travis Head scored 71 runs not out and took the team to a total of 277 runs.

England came out to chase and the wonderful innings by Ben Stokes of 102 run that too not out, simply leads the team to a wonderful victory.

7. England Vs West Indies

The match between England and West Indies was played in India. Unfortunately, India, being the host, got disqualified in the semi-finals. West Indies won the toss and elected to bat first. With the outstanding performance of Chris Gayle and Dwayne Bravo made the partnership of 174 runs and reached a total of 272 runs.

England came to chase, and England openers got a good start and both scoring half-centuries. When the openers lost their wickets Kevin Peterson took the team to the victory and won by 3 wickets.

8. India Vs England

The match between India and England was played in Colombo. Both the teams were in good form. Where England came to bat first and the opener Marcus Trescothick went out on duck and the skipper Nasser Hussain went back to the pavilion by just scoring 1 run. After that middle-order batsmen stood strong on the pitch and reached a total of 269 runs.

India on the other side came out to chase, being in terrific form. India openers Virendra Sehwag knocked 126 runs and Sourav Ganguly scored 117 runs and remained not out. The team had a wonderful win and won by 8 wickets.

9. England Vs Australia

The match between England and Australia was played at Birmingham. Both teams had a very competitive match. Australian batsmen were in good form but the top order lost their wickets very early and middle-order especially the captain George Bailey played really well and scored 55 runs James Faulkner knocked 54 runs and remained not out and the total score reached 269 runs.

England came to chase and Ian Bell played really well and scored 91 runs, Ravi Bopara played really well and made a comfortable win by 6 wickets.

10. New Zealand Vs Bangladesh

The match between New Zealand and Bangladesh was held at Cardiff. Both the team were looking very confident and just want to win the match. New Zealand opted to bat first and each of the New Zealand players from top to bottom played really well and achieved a total of 265 runs. Bangladesh came out to chase but their top order batsmen didn’t perform well and got dismissed very early.

But the middle order batsmen Shakib Al Hasan scored 114 runs and Mahmudullah scored 102 runs and remained not out. Finally, after this terrific batting performance, Bangladesh won the match by 5 wickets.
