The Rajasthan Royals are an Indian Premier League (IPL) cricket franchise based in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The Rajasthan Royals were sold to the Emerging Media for $67 million, making it the least expensive team in the league. Manoj Badale currently owns the franchise. Rajasthan Royals earlier have faced some controversies for his own title in IPL. So they had to face eviction from the Indian Premier League in the year 2010.
In reality, at the start of the competition, Rajasthan Royals were the least expensive team in the Indian Premier League and potentially the least fancied team in the league.
The Rajasthan Royals play their home games at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, which is located in Jaipur, Rajasthan. It has a capacity of 30,000 seating. And the Narendra Modi stadium, Ahmedabad is the second ground of the Royals which has a seating of 110,000.

Rajasthan Royals IPL Journey
In the 2008 IPL season, everyone thought that Rajasthan Royals were the weakest team. Rajasthan Royals lost their first match against Delhi Daredevils. In their next 5 consecutive matches, Rajasthan Royals won against the Kings XI Punjab, Deccan Chargers, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, and the Chennai Super Kings. Rajasthan Royals lost their seventh match against Mumbai Indians.
But Rajasthan Royals again won their next six consecutive matches against Deccan Chargers, Delhi Daredevils, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Kolkata Knight Riders, Chennai Super Kings and the Mumbai Indians. Rajasthan lost their fourteenth match against Kings XI Punjab but qualified to semi-finals. In the semi-final match, Rajasthan Royals played against Delhi Daredevils.
Rajasthan Royals batted first and scored 192/9in 20 overs, thanks to Shane Watson’s 52 off 29 and Yusuf Pathan’s 45 off 21. Delhi Daredevils lost their batting lineup and scored just 87 from losing all the wickets in 16.1 overs. Now, in the final match, Rajasthan Royals faced the Chennai Super Kings. Chennai Super Kings batted first and scored 163/5 in 20 overs. Rajasthan Royals has chased down the target by scoring a total of 164/7 in 20 overs, thanks to Yusuf Pathan’s 56 of 39 balls. Rajasthan Royals won the IPL Inaugural season title.
In the next 4 consecutive IPL seasons i.e., 2009, 2010, 2011, and 2012, Rajasthan Royals ended up positioning in the sixth and seventh place in the points table. The BCCI decided to force Kings XI Punjab and Rajasthan Royals out of the IPL in 2010.
The expulsion baffled captain Shane Warne, who stated that he suspected that there might be some foul play and that the BCCI might possess some ulterior motives. The Rajasthan Royals appealed the decision against the ruling, and the case was heard by the Mumbai High Court. The Mumbai High Court dismissed the BCCI’s petitions to hold the Rajasthan Royals in the IPL for six weeks until the issue was resolved.
In the 2013 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals played 18 matches and won 11 matches and lost 7 matches but managed to get into the playoffs. In the playoffs match Rajasthan Royals played against the Mumbai Indians. Rajasthan Royals batted first and scored165/6 in 20 overs. But Mumbai Indians chased the target with one ball left, owing to Dwayne Smith’s 62 in 44 balls. Rajasthan ended third in the points table.
In the 2014 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals played 14 matches and won 7 matches and lost seven matches, this didn’t help Rajasthan to qualify to the playoffs, so Rajasthan ended fifth in the points table.
In the 2015 IPL season, Rajasthan Royals played 15 matches and won 7 matches and lost 6 matches and 2 matches have no result. Rajasthan Royals managed to the playoffs but in the eliminator match, Rajasthan played against the Royal Challengers Bangalore and lost the match. Royal Challengers Bangalore batted first and scored 180/4, owing to AB de Villiers 66 off 38 balls and Mandeep Singh’s 54off 34 balls.
Rajasthan ended fourth in the points table. Following the Lodha Committee investigation in 2015, the team was banned for two years. When improper and fake bids were made, violating BCCI rules, the Rajasthan Royals became a source of controversy. The BCCI outlawed Rajasthan Royals for two years in 2015, and its owner Raj Kundra was banned for life.
Rajasthan Royals were banned from playing the 2016 and 2017 IPL seasons. Rajasthan Royals gave a comeback in 2018 and played 15 matches and won 7 matches and lost 8 matches but managed to qualify for the playoffs. The Rajasthan Royals finished the regular season in fourth position with 14 points. However, they were knocked out of the playoffs by Kolkata Knight Riders in the eliminator, losing by 25 runs at Eden Gardens.
In the 2019 and 2020 IPL seasons, Rajasthan Royals positioned seventh and eighth place in the points table.
