1. West Indies Vs Australia (1975)

The Final match between West Indies and Australia was played in the 1975 World Cup. England hosted the tournament. West Indies batted first and posted the target of 292.

Australia tried its best to achieve the target but they couldn’t reach the target the Australian team got all out at 274 runs and the West Indies won it by 17 runs and lifted the First World Cup Trophy.

Clive Lloyd the Captain of the West Indies team scored a massive 102 and was awarded the Man of The Match.

2. West Indies Vs England (1979)

The World Cup Final match was played between West Indies and England in 1979 at Lord’s. The tournament was hosted by England.

West Indies played the first innings and gave the target of 287 runs. Whereas, England in their second innings could only reach 194 runs and West Indies again lifted the World Cup Trophy and won the match by 92 runs.

Viv Richards played a wonderful knock of 138 runs and was also awarded as player of the match.

3. India Vs West Indies (1983)

The World Cup Final match was played between India and West Indies in 1983 at Lord’s. It was again hosted by England and it was the third consecutively England hosted the tournament. India batted in their first innings and posted the target of 183 runs.

On the other side, West Indies came out to bat and was playing well but couldn’t achieve the target, and the whole team was winded up at 140 runs India won it by 43 runs and India lifted its first World Cup trophy. Mohinder Amarnath was awarded as player of the match.

4. Australia Vs England (1987)

The World Cup Final match was played between Australia and England in 1987. The tournament was hosted by India.

Australia won the toss and came out to bat first. The Australian opener David Boon played well and scored 75 runs and made his team reach a total of 253 runs.

On the other side, England came out to bat, but unfortunately, the England openers couldn’t do well and the team could somehow reach 246 runs and Australia won the match by 7 runs. David Boon was awarded as the player of the match.

5. Pakistan Vs England (1992)

The World Cup Final match was played between Pakistan and England in 1992 at Melbourne. The host country was combined with Australia and New Zealand.

Pakistan team came out to bat first and the openers couldn’t do well and lost their wickets very early captain Imran Khan himself took the responsibility to take the team to a good total he scored 72 runs and the team reached 249 runs.

England came out to chase and again the opening partnership didn’t do well the Pakistan bowler Wasim Akram was in good form and created trouble for England’s batsmen they still reached 227 runs and finally, Pakistan won the match by 22 runs. Wasim Akram was awarded as Man of the Match.

6. Australia Vs Sri Lanka (1996)

The World Cup Final match was played between Australia and Sri Lanka in 1996. The tournament was hosted jointly by India and Pakistan.

Australia came out to bat first and the opener and captain Mark Taylor scored 74 runs and the team reached a total of 241 runs.

On the other side, Sri Lanka came out to chase and the openers couldn’t do well but Aravinda de Silva played a wonderful knock of 107 runs he remained not out and the team reached the target and won the match by 7 wickets. Aravinda de Silva was awarded as Man of the Match.

7. Pakistan Vs Australia (1999)

The World Cup Final match was played between Pakistan and Australia in 1999 at Lord’s. The tournament was hosted and organised by England.

Pakistan came out to bat first, and the team struggled a lot and couldn’t build any good partnerships, and the team reached 132 runs.

Australia came out to chase and the opening partnership stood very well and the team chased it very well and won the finals by 8 wickets. Shane Warne was awarded with Man of the Match.

8. Australia Vs India (2003)

The World Cup Final match was played between Australia and India in 2003 and it was played at Johannesburg. The tournament was hosted by South Africa.

Australia came out to bat first, and the players played well, Captain Ricky Ponting scored 140 runs and remained not out and the total score reached 359 runs.

On, the other side India came out to chase and the team couldn’t build a perfect partnership the whole team got all out at 234 runs and finally, Australia won the match by 125 runs. Ricky Ponting was awarded as Man of the Match.

9. Australia Vs Sri Lanka (2007)

The World Cup Final match was played between Australia and Sri Lanka in 2007, it was played at Bridgetown. The tournament was hosted by West Indies.

Australia came out to bat first and the opener Adam Gilchrist scored a massive 149 runs and the total score reached 281 runs.

On the other side, the Sri Lanka team came out to chase, and the opening was quite good but later they couldn’t achieve or build a good partnership the team somehow reached 215 runs and Australia won the match by 53 runs. Adam Gilchrist was awarded as Man of the Match.

10. India Vs Sri Lanka (2011)

The World Cup Final match was played between India and Sri Lanka in 2011 and it was played at Mumbai. The tournament was jointly hosted by India and Bangladesh.

Sri Lanka came out to chase and Mahela Jayawardene scored 103 runs and remained not out and the team total reached 274 runs.

Then, India came out to chase and Gautam Gambhir played a beautiful knock of 97 runs Captain MS Dhoni himself scored 91 runs and India made a huge victory and won the 2011 World Cup by 6 wickets. MS Dhoni was awarded as Man of the Match.

11. Australia Vs New Zealand (2015)

In the 2015 Cricket World Cup final, played on March 29, 2015, at the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG) in Australia, the winner was Australia. They defeated their trans-Tasman rivals, New Zealand, by a comfortable margin of 7 wickets.

This victory marked Australia’s fifth World Cup title, solidifying their position as a powerhouse in ODI cricket. The match itself was a one-sided affair, with New Zealand being restricted to a modest total of 183 runs after electing to bat first.

Australian bowlers, particularly James Faulkner with his economical spell of 3/36, kept the pressure on the New Zealand batsmen.

In response, Australia chased down the target comfortably in just 33.1 overs. Michael Clarke anchored the chase with a well-made 74 runs, while Steve Smith remained unbeaten on 56, guiding his team to victory. This win cemented Australia’s dominance on home soil.

12. England Vs New Zealand (2019)

The winner of the 2019 Cricket World Cup final between England and New Zealand was England. However, it was one of the most dramatic and closest finishes in World Cup history.

The scores were tied after both teams finished their 50 overs at 241 runs each. This led to the first-ever Super Over in a World Cup final to decide the winner. Both England and New Zealand scored 15 runs in their respective Super Overs, resulting in another tie.

Since the scores remained tied even after the Super Over, a unique rule came into play – the team with the most boundaries throughout the entire match (including the Super Over) would be declared the winner.

England, having hit 26 boundaries compared to New Zealand’s 17 throughout the match, emerged victorious on a technicality. This sparked jubilation for the English crowd, but also heartbreak for the valiant New Zealand team.

The winner of the Cricket World Cup Final between Australia and India in 2023 was Australia. They clinched a thrilling victory by six wickets at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad, India.
