Indian premier league (IPL) is the game of cricket, which is widely popular, especially amongst the Indian fans. In 2008, the inaugural edition of IPL was played. India’s most popular cricket festival is ready for hosting the 14th edition of Indian Premier League and it is scheduled to begin from 9th April’2021. 

These tournaments are managed and organised by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is an organisation who has the rights to govern the Cricket in India, under the supervision the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The IPL is played in T20 format.

This tournament is mostly played and conducted between the months of March to May. Total eight teams participate and they represent their respective cities & States in India. First edition of IPL was played in 2008 and it’s organised every year. The latest edition was played in 2021.

IPL attracts large amount of audience and in 2014 IPL ranked sixth by average attendance as compared to the other entire sports league in the world. In year 2010, IPL was the first sporting event which was telecasted live on YouTube. In 2019, it gained the brand value of Rs. 475 Billion. 

BCCI confirmed that2015 IPL season contributed Rs. 11.5 Billion to the GDP of Indian Economy. There has been total thirteen IPL seasons tournaments till 2020. Mumbai Indians are the current Title holder. The 2020 tournament was to be played and hosted by India but could not happen due to Covid-19 and was played in United Arab Nation.

          The first game of the 14th edition is between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. IPL is one of the most demanding game for the Indian fans and is also one of the most viewed cricket tournaments.

1. Virat Kohli

Kohli is described as “Run Machine” of cricket by scoring highest 5878 runs in 192 matches. Virat Kohli was bought by Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2008.

Kohli didn’t able to perform well in its first season of IPL franchise.

After he played few seasons and gained more and more experience, he then stated performing well for the franchise and also became the captain on Royal Challengers Bangalore in 2013, after when Daniel Vettori retired.

Kohli also bagged the Orange cap in a 16th match in 2016, after scoring 973 runs. When Kohli was in company with Chris Gayle and AB de Villiers, he scored lot many runs and made RCB the hub of entertainment.

2. Suresh Raina

He is the most talented left-handed batsmen and managed to secure second spot by scoring 5368 runs in 193 matches.

He is mainly known for fantastic innings with three times champions Chennai Super Kings.

Raina has also won many ‘Man of the Match’ awards. He is the only player to score and cross the 2000 and 5000 run mark.

3. David Warner

David Warner is the Australian power hitter and currently plays for Sunrisers Hyderabad franchise and scored 5254 runs in 142 matches. He is one of the most aggressive openers in the modern game.

Warner is also the captain of Sunrisers Hyderabad and won the title in 2016.

David Warner is one of the most won orange cap holder of all the times, winning it thrice.

4. Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has secured its fourth spot by scoring 5230 runs in 200 matches. He plays a very natural and aggressive game in the shorter format and also; he is naturally gifted with a good batting talent.

Rohit Sharma is the captain of Mumbai India and won the IPL title for four times in his captaincy.

5. Shikhar Dhawan

The Delhi boy ‘Gabbar’ is a left-handed batsmen and has scored 5197 runs in 176 matches. Dhawan is a very important player for Delhi Capitals. He has also scored back-to-back centuries against Chennai Super Kings and Kings XI Punjab in October 2020 edition.

After David Warner, Shikhar Dhawan is the fifth player to cross 5000 run mark. Initially, Dhawan was also the part of Deccan Chargers, Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.

When Shikhar Dhawan was the part of Sunrisers Hyderabad, the partnership of David Warner and Shikhar Dhawan stood marvellous.

6. Ab De Villiers

AB de Villiers is known as Mr. 360 and scored 4849 runs in 169 matches.

When ever AB de Villiers comes to bat, he puts more interest and glamour to the tournament. He plays a best ever shots and make audience feel good.

He is one of the most aggressive players for Royal Challengers Bangalore. The partnership between AB de Villiers and captain Kohli has been very strong and scored five 100+ and two 200+ runs partnership.

He is also a very good match finisher and also performs brilliantly behind the wickets. The only thing he didn’t achieve is not winning the IPL title.

7. Chris Gayle

Chris Gayle is popularly known as ‘Universe Boss’ and specially known for hitting more and huge sixes. Gayle has scored 4772 runs in 132 matches.

He has made the record of scoring six centuries and total 349 centuries in IPL history. Chris Gayle currently playing with Kings XI Punjab.

When Gayle comes to the field, the audience and the environment get more boost.

8. Ms Dhoni

MS Dhoni plays for Chennai Super Kings since the beginning of the IPL and in his captaincy Chennai Super Kings won the three titles. He is popularly known by the name ‘Thala’.

Dhoni has scored 4632 runs in 204 matches. After announcing the retirement from the international cricket in 2020, but he will be definitely play for Chennai Super Kings in 14th edition.

MS Dhoni has built huge fan following specially amongst its Indian people.

9. Robin Uthappa

Uthappa has the ability to win the matches and as a good finisher. He has scored 4607 runs in 189 matches.

He had played a very beautiful knock during the finals of 2012 and 2014 edition and made Kolkata Knight Riders win the IPL title.

10. Gautam Gambhir

Gautam Gambhir had a good IPL season, with scoring 4217 runs in 154 matches. Initially started with Delhi Daredevils (Delhi Capitals) and then bought by Kolkata Knight Riders.

And won two titles as a skipper. Gautam Gambhir ended his IPL series in 2018.
