            The Royal Challengers Bangalore are an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise cricket team based in Bangalore Karnataka. United Spirits established it in 2008 and named it after the company’s liquor brand Royal Challenge. Vijay Mallya paid 111.6 million US dollars for the Bangalore franchise. This was the second-highest offer for a team, behind only Reliance Industries’ US$111.9 million bid for the Mumbai Indians.

            MuthootFincorp is the title sponsor for the Royal Challengers Banglore. MuthootFincorp is a financial services firm that is part of the Kerala-based conglomerate MuthootPappachan Group. MuthootFincorp has been the RCB’s Title Sponsor since February 2020, when it took over from Virat Kohli’s youth apparel brand Wrogn.

The principal partners of RCB are the DP World, Reliance Jio, and Exide. The associate partners of the team are the MPL (Mobile Premier League), Max life, Boat audio, Puma, PhonePe, Nippon paint. The official partners of the team are the Kingfisher, Myntra, Milo, BKT Tyres, EUME, DNA Networks, IB Cricket, Jain Deemed To Be University, Socios.com, Herbalife Nutrition, Kotak Mahindra Bank, and Sosyo drink.

Royal Challengers Bangalore IPL Journey

            The home ground of Royal Challengers Bangalore is the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, which is located in Banglore. The stadium has a capacity of 35,000 seatings. The Royal Challengers have a large and devoted fan base throughout India, especially in Bangalore. They are well known as #RCBian.

            In the 2008 IPL season, Royal Challengers Bangalore played 14 matches and won only 4 of them, finishing seventh in the points table.

            In the 2009 IPL season, Royal Challengers Bangalore had a bad start winning only two of their first six matches. Then Pierson left for national matches and Anil Kumble took over the captaincy and led the team to win six of the remaining matches and finished third. In the semifinals RCB faced Chennai Super Kings. And choose to field first, RCB limited Chennai to 146 and chased down the total with 5 wickets in hand. In the finals RCB faced Deccan Chargers. Deccan Chargers batted first and scored a total of 143/6 in 20 overs. RCB failed to chase down the target and managed to score only 137/9 and lost the game.

            In the 2010 IPL season, Royal Challengers Bangalore ended the regular season with seven victories from fourteen games. RCB advanced to the semifinals because their net run rate was higher than that of the Delhi Daredevils and the Kolkata Knight Riders. In the semifinals RCB faced Mumbai Indians. Mumbai batted first and scored 184/5 in 20 overs. RCB failed to chase the target and scored only 149/9 in 20 overs.

            In the 2011 IPL season, Royal Challengers Bangalore began their campaign with a six-wicket victory over Kochi Tuskers Kerala. In the first qualifier, Royal Challengers Bangalore took on Chennai Super Kings in Mumbai. Virat Kohli hit an unbeaten 70 off 44 balls to help RCB post 175/4 in 20 overs. Despite losing early wickets, Chennai went on to win by six wickets.

RCB faced Mumbai Indians in the 2nd qualifier. Batting first, RCB scored 185/4 in 20 overs, thanks to Gayle’s 89 off 47 balls. Mumbai collapsed to a 43-run defeat. With this victory, the RCB qualified for the final, where they faced the Chennai Super Kings at their home ground. Chennai batted first and scored a massive 205/5 in 20 overs. The RCB batting lineup collapsed, leading to a defeat in the final.

            In the 2012 IPL season, RCB rallied back, Chris Gayle finding his touch to hit 5 consecutive sixes off Rahul Sharma and Saurabh Tiwary hit a six off the final ball to help the team win a close chase against Pune. A knocked match against Chennai in Bangalore deprived the team a chance to win two points outright, with the teams splitting the points 1-1. A thrilling chase against the Deccan Chargers in Bangalore, followed by victories in Mumbai and Pune, placed the RCB back on the road for the play-offs.

Both RCB and Chennai teams were tied on points, with Chennai leading on net run-rate, yet RCB had a game in hand when Chennai had finished theirs matches. In RCB’s final game they faced Deccan Chargers. Deccan Chargers batted first and scored 132/7 in 20 overs, thanks to Duminy’s unbeaten 74 off 53 balls. Due to RCB’s batting line failure, they were defeated by the Deccan Chargers. This is the first time RCB to fail to qualify for playoffs and the Champions League T20 since 2009.

            In the 2013 IPL season, RCB will only make the playoffs if Kolkata beats Hyderabad. Unfortunately, Sunrisers Hyderabad won the game convincingly by 5 wickets, effectively ending RCB’s 2013 season.

            In the 2014 IPL season, RCB ended up 7th in the points table and didn’t qualify for the playoffs.

            In the 2015 IPL season, RCB lost three matches in Bangalore to SRH, MI, and CSK. RCB registers a tremendous win by 9 wickets against RR and by 10 wickets against DD with the help of their top bowling performance of their bowler. In the next match, RCB won the match with a tremendous betting performance against RR got complete stunned.

They lost a close match to CSK but recovered by defeating Kings XI Punjab by 138 runs, supported by a century by Chris Gayle, and a four-wicket haul for Sreenath Aravind and Mitchell Starc. Later, Kings XI Punjab beat RCB and won the match. Then it was not sure whether RCB could qualify for the playoffs.

RCB defeated SRH in Hyderabad thanks to outstanding efforts by Virat Kohli and Chris Gayle. In the qualifiers match, RCB faced Chennai Super Kings. RCB batted first and scored 139/8 in 20 overs. Chennai chased down the target and won by 3 wickets. RCB lost their chance to be placed second in the points table after rain washed out their final match against DD. With 7 wins from 14 games, RCB finished third in the points table.

In the 2016 IPL season, RCB won their first match against SRH at Bangalore by a comfortable margin. RCB lost their second match against Mumbai. RCB lost their form and declined in the following tournaments, with only one of the next five matches being won. RCB needed to win at least 6 out of next seven remaining matches to qualify for the playoff of that IPL season. After losing to the Mumbai Indians, RCB needed four wins in four games to qualify.

Gujarat Lions was defeated by RCB with the record 144 runs margin in the IPL history. RCB finished as runners-up in this ninth season of the IPL after losing a hard-fought match by 8 runs. This is the third time in IPL history that RCB has lost the final.

RCB did not make the playoffs in any of the three IPL seasons (2017, 2018, and 2019). In the 2020 IPL season, RCB recovered form, winning seven of 15 matches and qualifying for the playoffs. In the playoffs, RCB scored 131/7 in 20 overs against the Sunrisers. However, Sunrisers chased down the target, and RCB finished fourth in the points table.
