This series is played between India and Australia. It is played in test series format. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) manages these tournaments. It is an organisation that has the rights to govern Cricket in India, under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and in the supervision of Australian cricket. In 1996-1997, the first edition was played, and it resulted in a win for India.  

The two Legends- Allan Border from Australia and Sunil Gavaskar from India. These two names have been very popular in their time for creating a historical record in the game of cricket. Giving those legends a Tribute by naming the series by their name. Australia was the only country to tour India just after independence.

Top 10 Moments in Border Gavaskar Trophy

1. In 2000- 2001, Border Gavaskar Trophy

It was one of the greatest matches. Australia had never lost the match earlier and kept winning continuously for the 16th matches. This situation just kept demotivating the Indian players but in this match, the performance by VVS Laxman and Rahul Dravid was outstanding. VVS Laxman scored 281 and Rahul Dravid scored 180 runs and made India win by 171 runs. This became a history that the team made a good comeback after several failures to win the test match.

2. In 2014-2015, Border Gavaskar Trophy

Virat Kohli played a wonderful knock in both innings. He scored 115 runs in the first innings and 141in the second innings, Murali Vijay and Pujara also supported the innings. In this match M S Dhoni got injured and team Captaincy was handed over to Virat Kohli. It was his first match being a captained and also scoring massive centuries. But somehow, India lost the match by 48 runs.

3. In 2012 – 2013, Border Gavaskar Trophy

It was the Australia tour of India and India won the match. But the best moment was Dhoni’s double century of 224 runs and he became the 3rd highest runs maker of any Indian captain in the test. Before this people were criticising M S Dhoni for his captaincy and the way he performed, which he made all shut. Sachin Tendulkar scored 81 runs and Virat Kohli contributed 107, which lead India to a great win.

4. In 2003–2004, Border Gavaskar Trophy

It was the India tour of Australia. Ricky Ponting made huge 242 runs but still, Australia lost the match. But what made the historic moment was, when Rahul Dravid came out for chase, he made 233 in the first innings and 72 not out in the second innings and also VVS Laxman also contributed 148 in first innings, from the bowling end Ajit Agarkar took 6 wickets and gave just 41 runs and India won the match by 4 wickets.

5. In 2007–2008, Border Gavaskar Trophy

It was the India tour of Australia. It was one of the greatest matches. Australia had never lost the match earlier and kept winning continuously for the 16th matches. This situation just kept demotivating the Indian players but in this match, the great contribution of Rahul Dravid and Sachin Tendulkar motivated other players too. In the bowing department, Irfan Pathan was also awesome and lead India to win. This became a history that the team made a good comeback after several failures to win the test match.

6. In 2018–2019, Border Gavaskar Trophy

The 4 match test series between India and Australia in 2018-2019 stood very historic. India won the match, and it was the maiden victory for them and India won it after 10 years. All the batsmen, as well as the bowlers, played really well and their contribution was much needed for this historic win. These wins just booster the morale of each and every player for their future matches.

7. In 2014 -2015, Border Gavaskar Trophy

It was India tour of Australia. Where Australia came to bat first and the centuries by David Warner 101 and Steve Smith 117 runs held team to reach total 572 runs and they declared the first innings and the India came out to chase and KL Rahul made 110 and Virat Kohli scored 147 runs and reached the total 475 runs. Then finally in the second innings Australia only made 251 runs and declared the innings and India came to chase and score 252 runs and the match got draw.

8. In 2018–2019, Border Gavaskar Trophy

In the India tour of Australia, which was played in Sydney. India came to bat first and Cheteshwar Pujara knocked 193 runs and Rishabh Pant scored 159 runs and stood not out and reached a total of 622 runs. It was a fantastic inning by India and the huge target was set up in front of Australia. Australia in the second innings somehow reached 300 runs. In the second innings which was declared by India and Australia made only 6 runs and the match got to draw.

9. In 2004, Border Gavaskar Trophy

It was an Australian tour of India. Where Australians were simply unstoppable and Damien Martyn made 114 runs, Darren contributed 70 and Michael Clarke scored 91 and lead the team to reach a total of 398 runs. India in their first innings could only be made 185 runs. Again in the second innings, Australia being in a good form Damien smash 97, Michael Clark 73 and Simon scored 99 and took to the total of 329 and they declared the innings. India in the second inning, though the team got demotivated by seeing the huge target still Virendra Sehwag scored 58 runs and Ajit Agarkar scored 44, rest no other player was able to score and at last Australia won by 342 runs, it was a historic win for Australians by such a huge margin.

10. In 2004, Border Gavaskar Trophy

The Australia tour of India played at Mumbai was one of the smallest margins won for India. In the first innings, India made 104 runs and Australia came to bat and 203 runs and took the lead. But India also didn’t stop and smash 205 in the second innings. The target seems very small and easily achievable by Australia but it turns out to be something different. Australia in their second innings could only make 93 and got all out and India won it by only 13 runs.
