Indian premier league (IPL) is the game of cricket, which is widely popular, especially amongst the Indian fans. In 2008, the inaugural edition of IPL was played. India’s most popular cricket festival is ready for hosting the 14th edition of Indian Premier League and it is scheduled to begin from 9th April’2021. 

These tournaments are managed and organised by Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). It is an organisation who has the rights to govern the Cricket in India, under the supervision the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports. The IPL is played in T20 format.

This tournament is mostly played and conducted between the months of March to May. Total eight teams participate and they represent their respective cities & States in India. First edition of IPL was played in 2008 and it’s organised every year. The latest edition was played in 2021.

IPL attracts large amount of audience and in 2014 IPL ranked sixth by average attendance as compared to the other entire sports league in the world. In year 2010, IPL was the first sporting event which was telecasted live on YouTube. In 2019, it gained the brand value of Rs. 475 Billion. 

BCCI confirmed that2015 IPL season contributed Rs. 11.5 Billion to the GDP of Indian Economy. There has been total thirteen IPL seasons tournaments till 2020. Mumbai Indians are the current Title holder. The 2020 tournament was to be played and hosted by India but could not happen due to Covid-19 and was played in United Arab Nation.

          The first game of the 14th edition is between the defending champions Mumbai Indians and Royal Challengers Bangalore. IPL is one of the most demanding game for the Indian fans and is also one of the most viewed cricket tournaments.

1. Chris Gayle’s 175

Brendon McCullum scored the highest individual T20- 158 run, he was carrying this record for many years. But, in April 2013 the history turned.

It was the match between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Pune Warriors India.

Chris Gayle smashed each and every bowler badly and scored a massive 175 runs in just 66 balls- which includes 13 fours and 17 sixes.

Chris Gayle scored the fastest century off, just 30 balls.

2. CSK Returns

Chennai Super Kings were banned from participating in IPL for two years. Everyone who was part of Chennai team got emotional, including the players.

But it was the great moment when CSK returned in IPL, got lots of appreciation from the fans. When CSK returned to the league and remained unstoppable.

Chennai Super Kings reached the finals and played against Sunrisers Hyderabad and won the match in the finals.

Chennai won the title for the third time. It was a good comeback for the team.

3. The Very First Edition Of IPL

The first IPL is obviously considered as one of the greatest moment in the IPL history. Chennai Super Kings were considered as a favourite team right from the beginning, due to its more popularity and fan following.

Whether it was due to its captain, who was so calm and had a good finisher or some other attachment with the teamwork.

On the other side it was Rajasthan Royals, which was looking weak on paper and was expected to last the table.

But the scenario totally changed, and Rajasthan Royals won the finals and lifted the title.

4. Brendon McCullum Scored Fastest 158 Runs

The very first was between Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders. RCB elected to bat first and then it was McCullum show. It was a tremendous batting, hitting the bowler in all parts of the stadium.  

He scored a massive 158 runs. He was a highest run makes in T20 for some time, after that the Universe boss took his spot.

KKR scored and posted 222/3 runs on the board, and RCB was dismissed at just 82 runs.

5. Ab De Villiers & Virat Kohli Partnership

AB de Villiers and Virat Kohli play for Royal Challengers Bangalore for such a long time. It was the match played in the 2016 edition, when both built a massive partnership.

Total 238 runs were made in just 107 balls.

6. Chris Lynn Fabulous Catch

The match was between RCB and KKR. Kolkata team managed to give the target of 150/7. RCB came to bat and their top order batsmen have the good start.

Only few runs were left and Ab De Villiers was also in a good form. Ab played a shot for a six, but unfortunately it landed where the Chris Lynn was standing and Lynn took a fabulous catch and the matched turned and KKR won the match.

7. Adam Gilchrist’s Dance

Adam Gilchrist is as Australian cricketer, plays for Kings XI Punjab. He is a good batsman, along with a regular wicket keeper.

In the IPL match, when Punjab realised themselves on the winning side, then Adam Gilchrist came to bowl the last over.

Harbhajan Singh was on strike, and Adam Gilchrist took his wicket on a very first ball. After that Adam started the dance in Gangnam style.

8. Kiren Pollard Hat Trick

Pollard is a very good batsmen, bowler as well as good fielder. The match was played between MI and CSK. Michael Hussey was the man on strike, and Mitchell Johnson was a bowler.

Pollard dropped three catches consecutively and made a hat trick of dropping catches. The moment for him became very disturbing.

9. Rajasthan Royals Chased 217 Runs

Rajasthan Royals was looking weak on paper and was expected to last the table. But the scenario totally changed, and Rajasthan Royals won the finals and lifted the title.

It was the historic win for Rajasthan Royals.

10. Anil Kumble 5 for 5

RCB winning the toss and elected to bat first and posted 132/8 in 20 overs. But the total was looking very small, but RCB managed it very well.

Making impossible to possible. Kimble was in good form against Rajasthan Royals.

He took 5 wickets and just gave 5 runs and bowled out Rajasthan Royals for 58 runs.
