In 1998, ICC changed the name of Knockout Tournament to Champions Trophy. It is played in 50- over format. The first tournament was played in 1998and was continued to be played and held after every alternative year. But the format of the Champions Trophy gradually kept changing over the period of time. Since the beginnings of the tournament in 2009 & till the present, it is been played every fourth coming year. England & Wales hosted the latest edition in 2017. 

The current champions are Pakistan. International Cricket Council (ICC) has all the rights to perform the tournaments. ICC is an International Organisation that looks after the management and smooth conduct of tournaments under their Governance. It has the One-Day International (ODI) format. 

Top 10 Fielders in ICC Champions Trophy

1. Mahela Jayawardene

Mahela Jayawardene is a Sri Lankan cricketer. He is amongst the best fielder in the Sri Lankan squad and also in the history of cricket. He has played his first ICC Champions Trophy in 2000 and latest played till 2013. He played a total of 22 matches and managed to take 15 catches, which is among the maximum number and gains the top spot.

He is the first Sri Lankan to achieve this record. He plays an important part in the Sri Lankan lineup. He usually fields inside the 30-yard circle.

2. Ross Taylor

Ross Taylor is a New Zealand player, and he is also known for his brilliant fielding. He started playing the ICC Champions Trophy in 2009 and played till 2017. He played a total of 11 matches and took 12 catches and retains the second spot and the first New Zealand player to grab this achievement.

He is one of the best fielders and one should make sure that the best fielding by the team can change the game at any point in time.

3. Sourav Ganguly

Sourav Ganguly is an Indian cricketer. He is not only known for his batting or captaincy but also his fielding is amongst the best in the Indian lineup. He first played his ICC Champions Trophy in 1998 and played till 2004. Sourav Ganguly played a total of 13 matches and been part of 12 innings and took 12 wonderful catches and became the first Indian cricketer to achieve this record. From the very beginning, his fielding part has been very strong, and he gives his best once on the field.

4. Dwayne Bravo

Dwayne Bravo is a Caribbean cricketer, plays for West Indies. He is one of the funniest and entertaining cricketers. He started playing his ICC Champions Trophy tournament in 2004 and played till 2013. He played a total of 15 matches and been part of 15 innings and took 12 catches.

All the above players took 12 catches, but ranking depends upon their performance. Dwayne Bravo is a perfect all-rounder. He mostly guards the field around the ropes in the long-on area.

5. JP Duminy

Duminy is a Left-handed batsman and Right-arm spin bowler from South African and also a wonderful all-rounder. He has played his first ICC Champions Trophy tournament in 2009 and latest played till 2017. He played a total of 10 matches and took 9 catches and became the only South African bowler to achieve this record. Fielding is the most important part of cricket. The South Africa team is also very popular for its fielding capability.

6. Daniel Vettori

Daniel Vettori is a Cricketer from New Zealand and has wonderful all-rounder skills. He is a wonderful fielder and currently the coach of the New Zealand team. He has started playing his ICC Champions Trophy tournament in 1998 and played till 2013.

He played a total of 17 matches and took 9 catches, with an average of 2 catches per innings as catches win matches. In each and every format of cricket, fielding plays an important part.

7. Shoaib Malik

Shoaib Malik is a Pakistani cricketer. He is one of the best all-rounders in the Pakistan team lineup. His fielding skills are very awesome. He played his first ICC Champions Trophy tournament in the year 2002 and latest played till 2017. He played a total of 20 matches and took 9 catches.

8. Suresh Raina

Suresh Raina is an Indian cricketer and also amongst the best fielder. Suresh Raina mostly fields in the slips and inside the 30-yard circle. He is one of the best fielders in the history of cricket. His dives, saving runs and quick run-outs are his key skills.

9. Graeme Smith

Graeme Smith is a South African left-handed batsman. He is not only known for his batting performance but also his fielding capability is brilliant. His fielding has been very impressive. 10. Rahul Dravid

Rahul Dravid is an Indian cricketer and had a wonderful cricket career. He is currently coaching the Under 19 team snd also the team won the world cup in his presence. He first played his ICC Champions trophy series in 1998 and played till 2009. He played a total of 19 Matches, in which he took 8 catches.

He is one of the great personalities in the history of cricket. As in his career, he gained lots of experience and these experiences are being shared amongst the upcoming cricketers.
