In 1998, ICC changed the name of Knockout Tournament to Champions Trophy. It is played in 50- over format. The first tournament was played in 1998 and was continued to be played and held after every alternative year. But the format of the Champions Trophy gradually kept changing over the period of time. Since the beginnings of the tournament in 2009 & till the present, it is being played every fourth coming year. England & Wales hosted the latest edition in 2017. 

The current champions are Pakistan. International Cricket Council (ICC) has all the rights to perform the tournaments. ICC is an International Organisations that looks after the management and smooth conduct of tournaments under their Governance. It has the One Day International (ODI) format. 

Top 10 win in ICC Champions Trophy

1. New Zealand Vs USA

The match between New Zealand was played at The Oval. Where New Zealand came to bat first and the opener Nathan Astle scored a century of 145 runs and remained not out. The team reached a total of 347 runs. The target was huge. The USA came to chase with good hope but, the New Zealand players were in a different form. The top three batsmen lost their wicket without opening their account. All three got out at duck and finally, New Zealand won by 210 runs.

2. Sri Lanka Vs Netherlands

The match between Sri Lanka and the Netherlands was held in Colombo. Sri Lanka won the toss and elected to bat first. Sri Lanka’s batting unit was very strong and the opening partnership was very good and M. Atapattu scored 101 runs and took the team to a total of 292 runs.

The Netherlands came out to chase but their openers didn’t spend much time on the pitch and went back very early and couldn’t make any partnership and finally, Sri Lanka won the match by 206 runs.

3. Pakistan Vs India

The match between Pakistan and India always stands interesting. It was the final match played at The Oval. Pakistan came to bat first and the top order bats were in intense form. Fakhar Zaman scored 114 runs, Azhar Ali scored 59 and took the team to a total of 338 runs.

India came out to chase and Rohit Sharma just went out at duck and slowly all the batsmen went out very early and just able to make 158 runs and Pakistan won it by 180 runs.  

4. West Indies Vs Bangladesh

The match between West Indies and Bangladesh was played in Jaipur, India. It was the greatest win for the Caribbean players. Bangladesh batted first and the opener Nafees made 38 and Aftab scored 59 and somehow reaches the total of 161 runs and the team got all out.

West Indies was looking in a great form and the openers Chris Gayle scored 104 and Chanderpaul scored 52 took the team to the huge victory without any loss of the wicket and it was the 10 wicket win.

5. Pakistan Vs Sri Lanka

The match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka was played in Nairobi. Both the teams were in fantastic form. Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first and the slow and low partnership by some of the players and reached a total of 194 runs.

The target seems to be very simple for the Pakistan team and Saeed Anwar made massive 105 runs and with the fall of just one wicket, Pakistan made it an easy win and won by 9 wickets with 40 balls remaining.

6. South Africa Vs Kenya

The match between South Africa and Kenya was played at Colombo in the 2002 edition of the ICC Champions Trophy. The South Africa team was in drastic form. Their batting played really well and their opening batsmen played really well and reached a total of 316 runs. The target was huge.

Kenya came to chase and Steve Tikolo the skipper knocked 69 runs and there were no other batsmen to support him and the whole team got all out at 140 runs and South Africa won by 176 runs.

7. Australia Vs Bangladesh

The match between Australia and Bangladesh was played in Colombo. Both the teams were in intense form. Where Bangladesh came out to bat and didn’t make any opening partnership and kept losing wickets. Total 129 runs made by Bangladesh. On the other hand, Australia came out to chase and just losing one wicket of Adam Gilchrist at 54 runs and Matthew Hayden scored 67 and remained not out and Australia won it by 9 wickets.

8. New Zealand Vs Bangladesh

The match between New Zealand and Bangladesh was played in Colombo. Both the teams are on the stronger side and both in good form. New Zealand came to bat first and thrashed all the Bangladeshi bowlers and scored massive 244 runs. On the other side, Bangladesh came to chase and initially kept losing wickets and New Zealand had a huge win by 167 runs.

9. Pakistan Vs Netherlands

The match between Pakistan and Netherlands was played at Colombo in the 2002 edition of the Champions Trophy. Pakistan is always in an aggressive mode. The Netherlands started the innings, and the openers started losing their wickets very early without forming any partnership and could only reach a total of 136 runs.

Then, Pakistan came to chase, and they were in drastic form and with losing just one wicket of Imran Nazir 59 and Shahid Afridi made 55 run and remain not out and finally, Pakistan won the match by 9 wickets.

10. Australia Vs New Zealand

The match between Australia and New Zealand was played in the 2002 edition of the Champions Trophy and it was a very unfortunate match in which the New Zealand team could not perform well. Australia won the toss and elected to bat first and all the Australia batsmen from top to bottom contributed well and made their team reach the total of 296 runs with the fall of 7 wickets.

On the other side, New Zealand came to chase with the best class batsmen but since its beginnings, they couldn’t resist their performance and cannot spend time on the pitch and went back to the pavilion very early and which resulted in the win for Australia by 164 runs.
