The Ashes are mainly known for the Test matches. In 1882, it was first played between England and Australia, only these two countries are part of this Ashes series. The team that most recently won the series are regarded by the Ashes. It is played in a Test Cricket format. International Cricket Council (ICC) has all the rights to perform the tournaments.

ICC is an International Organisation who looks after the management and smooth conduct of tournaments under their Governance. It is a five match series Tournament. The latest Ashes series was played in 2019 and the series score went 2-2, in which England levelled the series after beating Australia in final test. In this format, if the series gets draw, the team which is currently holding the Ashes retains the trophy.

1. First Century of Peterson

The Captain of England test team Michael Vaughan was seeing the overwhelming performance of Kevin Peterson and he selected him for the 2005 edition of the Ashes series. At that time, Peterson was a young sportsperson.

After his selection, he scored three Half Centuries in the series and started gaining more and more confidence and scored a Debut Test century in the 4th match, which was played at The Oval. And also with his wonderful innings, he made his team win the series. His youngest talent was a good example for other younger players joining the Ashes.

2. Bob Massie Made His Debut

Massie entry into the Ashes series has become one of the most historical moments in the history of Ashes Test Cricket. Bob Massie is an Australian Cricketer. He played his first Ashes in 1973 against England and took 16 wickets at Lord’s. He took 8 wickets in each innings of two. It was the best surprising debut by Bob and also one of the most rememberable moments in Ashes history.

3. Brett Lee And Flintoff’s Friendship

Andrew Flintoff was considered one of the smartest cricketer. In 2005, Flintoff was bending down and shaking hand with Brett Lee – an Australian fast bowler. As both represent different nations and both are awesome fast bowlers and are good competitors of each other. But during the match, there should be no aggression shown, as it puts a bad impression on the public.

This showed a good example of sportsmanship. These all gestures became very important for other cricketers as well. When playing on the field one should show a good team spirit and focus towards its game.

4. Flintoff On Fire

As we know that Andrew Flintoff is one of the smartest cricketers and he has the capability of playing extraordinarily with both bat and ball. In the 2005 Ashes series, he contributed 75 runs in 86 balls. In that same innings, when he came out to the ball he was very impressive with it too.

After, the 13th over none of the opponent player was an able player not able to score good runs. Every ball he bowled had a good impact on opponent.

5. Shane Warne’s First Ball of Ashes

Shane Warne is a Right Arm Leg Break Bowler. He balled a very first ball to Mike Gatting- an English Cricketer, and that delivery was totally unpredictable by Mike and it went into the stump and Mike remained shocked about the delivery. This incident happened in the 1993 Ashes Series.

After that, he took many impressive wickets in all the formats of cricket, but this particular delivery will always remain in the memories.

6. Ricky Ponting Run Out

One of the most famous incidents happened in the 2005 Ashes series. The perfect aim targeted directly to the stump made Gary Pratt run out. All the England fans got excited to see that run out. It was a very quick run out as well as unexpected. Ricky Ponting is one of the finest fielders in the Australian team.

His fielding capability, catching capability and run-outs are the key points. The unexpected performance is always becoming a wonderful moment.

7. Fred Trueman 300 Wickets

Fred is an English Right Arm Batsman as well as Right Arm Fast Bowler. He is one of the fantastic bowlers of the England team in his times. In the 1964 edition of the Ashes Series, he became the first-ever bowler to take 300 wickets in his career. Taking 300 wickets is not an easy task for the bowlers. This match was played at The Oval.

This moment became one of the most historic moments for the England fans and for the upcoming generation. Fred achieved the best figure in his career and made everyone proud.

8. Ian Botham & Bob Willis Comeback

Ian Botham and Bob Willis are English players. Ian Botham was a good batsman as well known for his all-rounder performance. Whereas, Bob was n Right Arm Fast Bowler. In the 1981 Ashes series, Ian Botham and Bob Willis helped their team to make a good comeback in the history of Ashes. Ian was good with both bat and ball, and Bob showed a good performance with his bowling ability.

9. Steve Waugh

Steve Waugh is an Australian and is a Right-Hand Batsman. In 2001, Ashes series Steve Waugh was suffering from a muscle injury but still managed to play and scored 157 runs and remained not out. It was the final match played at The Oval. It became one of the most memorable moment for the fans as he played a fantastic stroke despite his injury and was not at all fit for the match.

10. Ian Botham Starts with Six

The match was played at The Oval in 1985 and it was an excellent performance from the England Team. With Ian Botham on top came to crease and managed a crowd roaring hit that the ball was high over McDermott’s head and went directly to the pavilion for six.

This huge start gave the dominating performance to the Australian team. These special moments became the most historical moment in the history of the Ashes series.
