This series is played between India and Australia. It is played in test series format. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) organises these tournaments. It is an organisation that has the rights to govern Cricket in India, under the supervision of the Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports and in the supervision of Australian cricket. In 1996-1997, the first edition was played, and it resulted in a win for India.

The two Legends- Allan Border from Australia and Sunil Gavaskar from India. These two names have been very popular in their time for creating a historical record in the game of cricket. Giving this Legend a Tribute by naming the series by their name. Australia was the only country to tour India just after independence.

Top 10 Win in Border Gavaskar Trophy

1. Australia tour of India, 1998

In the Australia tour of India, played at Kolkata in 1998. It was a fantastic win for India. Australia came out to bat first and not scoring any good partnership. Top-order batsmen got dismissed very early and middle-order Steve Waugh scored 80 and Ricky Ponting scored 60 runs, which helped the team to reach a total of 233 runs. India came out to chase and all the players played really well and the century by Md Azharuddin of 163 not out took the score to 633 runs and they declared the innings.

Australia then thought of chasing it and could only score 181 runs and go all out and finally, India won the match by an innings and 219 runs.

2. Australia tour of India, 2004

Australia tour of India, which was played in Nagpur in 2004. Where Australians were simply unstoppable and Damien Martyn made 114 runs, Darren contributed 70 and Michael Clarke scored 91 and the team reach a total of 398 runs. India in their first innings could only be made 185 runs. Again in the second innings, Australia being in a good form Damien smash 97, Michael Clark 73 and Simon scored 99 and took to the total of 329 and they declared the innings.

India in the second inning, though the team got demotivated by seeing the huge target still Virendra Sehwag scored 58 runs and Ajit Agarkar scored 44, rest no other player was able to score and at last Australia won by 342 runs and it was a historic win for Australians by such a huge margin.

3. India tour of Australia, 2000

In the India tour of Australia, played in Sydney in 2000. India got the chance to open the innings and could build any good partnership and just reach the total of 150 runs. Australia in their first innings came strongly and Justin Langer scored massive 223 runs and Ricky Ponting scored 141 not out and reached the total 552 runs and then declared the innings and India in their second innings tried much harder and the opener VVS Laxman scored 167 runs and somehow reached 261 runs and Australia won it by an innings and 141 runs.

4. India tour of Australia, 2007

In the India tour of Australia in 2007, played in Melbourne. Australia played the first innings and the opening partnership between Phil Jaques and Matthew Hayden of 190 runs and another batsman also contributed and reached the total 343 runs. India came out to chase and openers lost their wickets very early and Yuvraj Singh and MS Dhoni went out at duck and could only make 196 runs.

Australia again scored the big total for India of 351 runs and declared the innings, India could only score 161 runs and Australia won by 337 runs.

5. Australia tour of India, 2013

In the Australia tour of India in 2013, played in Hyderabad. Australia came out to bat first and the small partnership leads the Australian Team to a total of 237 runs. India was in good form and Murali Vijay came as an opener and smashed massive 167 runs and on the other side, Cheteshwar Pujara scored 204 runs and took India to a total of 503 runs. Australia on their second innings scored 131 runs and India won the match by an innings and 135 runs.

6. Australia tour of India, 2017

In the Australia tour of India in 2017, played at Pune. It was a big victory for the Australian team. Australia came out to bat first and all the top order batsmen contributed well and even Mitchell Starc scored 61 runs and took the total to 260 runs. India came out to chase but except KL Rahul scoring 62 runs, no one else got the good start and reach 105 runs.

In the second innings, Steve Smith scored 109 runs and reached a total of 285 runs. India somehow made 107 runs and Australia won it by 333 runs.

7. India tour of Australia, 2012

In the India tour of Australia in 2012 in Sydney. India opened the innings and the opener Gautam Gambhir went out at duck MS Dhoni scored 57 runs and remained not out and took the score to 191 runs. Australia came to chase, and the openers didn’t do well but Ricky Ponting scored 134 runs Michael Clarke scored massive 329 runs and Michael Hussey scored 150 runs and the total went to 659 runs.

India was much behind and came to chase but still managed to score 400 runs but at last, Australia won by an innings and 68 runs.

8. Australia tour of India, 2008

It was an Australia tour of India in 2008, played at Mohali. India came out to bat first and the partnership between each and every player kept on building and the century by Sourav Ganguly of 102 runs took the team to a total of 469 runs. Australia lost its opener very early but Shane Watson scored 78, Michael Hussey scored 54 and reached the total of 268 runs.

In the second innings India carried its form and the opener Gautam Gambhir scored 104 runs, Virendra Sehwag scored 90 and MS Dhoni 68 not out took the score to 314 runs and declared. Australia needed 516 runs to win but could only make 195 runs and India won it by a huge margin of 320 runs.

9. India tour of Australia, 2012

It was an India tour of Australia in 2012, played in Perth. India got to bat in the first innings and no one could build a good partnership and score somehow reached 161 runs. Australia’s David Warner scores massive 180 runs and took the score to 369 runs.

India left very behind and tried to chase and in the second innings could only make 171 runs and Australia won it by an innings and 37 runs.

10. India tour of Australia, 2012

It was an India tour of Australia in 2012, played at Adelaide. Australia in their first innings scored massive 604 runs. Ricky Ponting scored 221 runs, Michael Clarke scored 210 runs. India tried its best and Virat Kohli scored 116 runs and reached a total of 272 runs. Australia in the second innings got a low score of only 167 runs. Now India needed 500 runs to win and could only make 201 runs and Australia won it by 298 runs.
